My son became obsessed with ninjas and asked if he could learn how to defend himself. No behavior problems, just a normal energetic 5 year old boy. We knew karate was much more than that and would be very good for him. I researched many different places before deciding to go with Keene’s ATA Martial Arts. We enrolled him in January and he completed 6 weeks in the beginner class focusing on learning impulse control, left and right, and the stances. Then he completed 6 weeks with the white, yellow, and orange belts where he wasn’t quite ready to test. It was a large learning curve for him full of peaks and valleys, but we stuck with it. Master Keene and Jaucian were a great balance of constructive criticism, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. My son learned grit this 3rd cycle by preserving and practicing really hard to earn all of his stripes to test. He EARNED his first new belt and headband after 5 months and I can’t tell you how proud we are of him. The look on his face of pride, accomplishment and happiness brought this mama to tears. 5 months may seem like a long time for a 5 year old but it is worth it. He has learned so many valuable life skills other than forms and self defense such as: Grit, self confidence, listening skills, impulse control, balance, coordination and how to move his body and know where it is in space. I would highly recommend Keene’s ATA if you are in it for the long haul because it takes kids some time to figure it out. There are no participation trophies. You as a parent have to be dedicated to helping your child practice. Taking videos during class of the forms and different things they are learning is helpful as Taekwondo is very detail orientated and watching them while practicing is helpful. We airplay them to our TV and practice as a family :) I cannot highly recommend Kenne’s ATA enough. I’m excited to watch my own son grow as he earns different belts and progresses through the tigers program.

My son was dealing with ADHD inattentive and some self control issues. We tried medication and had bad side effects. We then put our son in Keene’s ATA and it has been amazing for our family. His focus and self control has improved significantly. He is also more confident and empathetic to others. I can’t recommend this studio enough!

My 5 year old is a current student here and he is always so excited about going to class. I struggle to tell him to stay home when he’s sick coz he doesn’t want to miss out. I have also seen a huge shift in discipline and accountability since he first joined the program.

We really enjoy Keenes ATA. It has taught my son life skills that he would have otherwise struggled to learn. He is on the spectrum and karate has been a game changer. We have been taking him here for about 4 years and he has progressed so much. We tried other activities like soccer and tball and it just wasn’t working out. Karate is part of our life and blessed to have such a great studio close to home. I will continue to be a loyal customer!
